Official Visit of Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom David Lammy to Singapore, 12 July 2025

 

Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom (UK) David Lammy made an official visit to Singapore on 12 July 2025.

 

Foreign Secretary Lammy was hosted to lunch by Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan. Both Ministers reaffirmed the close and longstanding ties shared by Singapore and the UK, which celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year. They discussed ways to strengthen UK-Singapore bilateral cooperation, including in trade and investment, AI and innovation. Minister Balakrishnan welcomed the UK’s interest in stepping up its engagement with ASEAN. The two Ministers also exchanged views on international and regional developments and reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to uphold and strengthen international law and the multilateral trading system.

 

Foreign Secretary Lammy made a courtesy call on Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong. Prime Minister Wong affirmed the strong and multi-faceted relations between Singapore and the UK, including cooperation in areas like trade and investments, defence and security, and science and technology. They also discussed developments in the UK and exchanged views on geopolitical developments, including on global trade and the situation in the Middle East.

 

Foreign Secretary Lammy also called on Deputy Prime Minister (DPM), Minister for Trade and Industry and Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore Gan Kim Yong. DPM Gan welcomed the UK’s investment of £70 million to Singapore’s Financing Asia’s Transition Partnership (FAST-P) initiative, to support green and transition financing in the region.
