UK directs play, Ukraine acts

(MENAFN) Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, has accused the United Kingdom of being fully engaged in supporting Ukraine’s alleged sabotage and attacks within Russian territory. He claimed that British backing has been essential to Ukraine’s ability to conduct such operations.

Recently, Russia has experienced a series of disruptive incidents on its railway infrastructure. The most devastating occurred on June 1, when a bridge in the Bryansk Region collapsed just as a passenger train was passing, leading to the deaths of seven people and injuries to over 100 others. On the same day, a broad drone offensive was launched against airbases across Russia, stretching from Murmansk in the north to Irkutsk in Siberia. According to Russian authorities, most of the drones—launched from modified commercial trucks—were intercepted, and any damage to aircraft was repairable.

During an event titled the ‘Forum of the Future 2050’ held in Moscow, Lavrov addressed rising concerns about domestic security, stating that the likelihood of an increased terrorist threat in Russia is real.

“It is obvious that all this is being done by the Ukrainian side, but it would have been helpless without the support... from the British,” he said.

Lavrov further alleged that such covert actions had previously received backing from both Washington and London. However, he suggested that in the current geopolitical climate, the UK now acts as Ukraine’s primary ally in these operations.

“Although who knows, maybe there are still some special services in the US that are participating in such activities by inertia, but the British are 100% involved in them,” Lavrov stressed.

These claims echo remarks made by Russia’s ambassador to the UK, who also recently accused Britain of playing a direct role in Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian military facilities. According to the statements, the UK has remained unwavering in its support for Ukraine, even as the United States, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, has begun shifting its focus toward reestablishing diplomatic channels with Moscow and seeking a negotiated resolution to the conflict.
